Q: How can knowing shaft specs help me select a shaft?
A: Knowing shaft specs can help you select a shaft that gives you the right properties you need to improve your club. You can select a shaft with proper weight, kick point, torque, and tip so that it, when installed properly, betters your club.
Q: What does torque mean?
A: “Torque” means the shaft’s designed resistance to twisting during the downswing. The lower the torque rating, the more resistance the shaft will have to twisting during the downswing.
Q: What is a kick point?
A: A “kick point” is the place on the shaft where it bends the most as it is being swung. Kick points help determine the stiffness of the shaft in swing, as well as determining the flight of the ball. A low kick point will result in a high flight trajectory and a high kick point will result in a low flight trajectory.
Q: Is finding the proper flex important?
A: The proper “flex” is determined by the golfer’s swing speed. Flex is important because if a shaft is too stiff for a player the clubface will open on impact sending the shot right; or if it is too soft for a player the clubface will close on impact sending the shot left. Flex is key to finding the proper shaft for your own swing.
Q: Is flex standard for all shaft manufacturers?
A: No, a standard flex rating does not carry over all shaft manufacturers. Flexes can vary depending on the swing speed recommendations of the manufacturer.
Q: Where can I find more information on certain specs?
A: More information on specs can be found on the manufacturers home website, or by searching for it via the internet.
Q: What is a pullout shaft?
A: Pullout shafts are shafts which have been pulled from an existing golf club. The majority of the pullouts shafts we carry are have been extracted from brand new golf clubs. Shafts have been professionally pulled maintaining the integrity of the shaft. We guarantee the shafts that there are no defects in the tip section which would compromise the shaft. Pullout shafts are an excellent way to buy exotic or hard to find shafts at a fraction of the original price.
